about
Mesmerise by Chapterhouse:
(Originally intended for a Good Cheer Records covers compilations that never happened.)
Mesmerise is my favorite Chapterhouse song, it's totally euphoric but there is this unspoken layer of sadness--like MDMA. I believe we recorded this cover sometime in 2015 and may have played it at one of the "soon asleep" release shows, although memory often fails me. I was teaching myself more about recording at the time. Trying to recreate the instrumentation on an ornate 90's studio single on my laptop seemed like a good lesson. Tuesday and I recorded together twice. I can't remember if it was while recording this song, but one of the times we got completely waisted--on both "melt" and this you can hear the half-alive, blissful distance of being fucked up in our voices.

Kelp speaks to me. Sad and experimental like Drowse. Musical freedom. I teared up during the chorus of "Falter" while watching them play last week: "you are changed." drowse
August creates slow, warm songscapes. He has released a wild amount of albums since starting the project last year and I'm in awe of his work ethic. Also, my friend Alex from Sprain plays on this. drowse
Portland shoegaze that plays, as the best representatives of the genre do, with huge, hollow atmosphere against intimate observations. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 23, 2016
